Cardiac rehabilitation (rehab) is an outpatient medically supervised program of exercise and education. The program consists of monitored exercise, emotional support, and learning ways to make lifestyle changes for a healthier heart. A registered nurse and exercise specialist design a plan that is safe for you, based on your heart condition and goals.
Cardiac rehab is for people of all ages who recently had angina, heart attack, stent, angioplasty, heart surgery, or other heart problems. The goals of this program are to help you regain your strength, feel better, be more active, and reduce your risk of
future heart problems. Attending a rehab program can help you with the physical and emotional stress of having a heart problem.
Most health insurance plans, including Medicare, provide coverage for outpatient rehab. Check with your insurance company, or the rehab staff, to see if your insurance will cover rehab.
