Educational Classes

Outpatient education classes focus on controlling diabetes through self-management. Most patients are scheduled for a group program, a total of 13 hours, over three consecutive weeks concluding with an individual nutrition appointment. Individual
appointments are also available. Education is offered at two locations: Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center Florida Hospital Flagler. Our curriculum covers:
• Diabetes disease process
• Nutritional management
• Physical activity
• Medications
• Monitoring
• Prevention, detection and treatment of acute complications
• Prevention, detection and treatment of chronic complications through risk reduction
• Goal setting and problem solving
• Psychosocial adjustment
• Preconception care, management during pregnancy and gestational management
We also offer:
• Pregnancy/Gestational diabetes
• Insulin pump management
• Continuous glucose monitoring (7 day)
Support Groups
People with diabetes and their families can exchange information, feelings and ideas at the Diabetes Center’s monthly support groups. Meetings are held at Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center and Florida Hospital Flagler. No registration or fees are required. Meetings do not take place in July or August.
