Nursing Internships
Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center currently offers a Nursing Internship twice a year with two specialties. One track is for Medical/Surgical, Rehabilitation, and Progressive Care Unit nurses with a target audience of graduate nurses and nurses who have not previously worked in the hospital setting. The second track is for Critical Care and Emergency Department nurses with a target audience of graduate nurses as well as other nurses transferring to Critical Care or the ED. Both tracks run simultaneously.
The FHMMC Nursing Internship includes a 12-week course consisting of lecture, case scenarios, and hands-on experience. The FHMMC Nursing Internship program is designed to enhance the nurses' knowledge of disease pathophysiology, clinical assessment, and the nursing process. There is an emphasis on caring for the patient at the bedside including the use of equipment and orientation to policies and procedures.

Preceptor Workshop
Research has demonstrated a gap between the preparation of health care professionals and the health care needs of our patients. There is a great disparity between competencies required in practice and those demonstrated by new graduates. The Preceptor Workshop prepares the experienced staff member to work with an entry level staff member in a 1:1 relationship providing real world experiences that bridge the gap between theory and reality. Topics include role responsibilities, principles of adult education, reality shock, critical thinking skills and effective communication skills.
Following the preceptor workshop, designated preceptors partner with new employees. Interns and preceptors work as a team for a designated number of weeks depending on the specialty track selected.
