More than 600 votes cast to determine winner
(DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.) – On the afternoon of May 12, Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center crowned Ora Moore as the first ever “Hospital Idol” during a live finale. Moore, who is a Patient Care Tech in the Surgical Nursing Unit of the hospital, belted out “Last Dance” which got the crowd up and moving to the disco beat.
After a standing ovation, guest administration judges applauded Moore for her beautiful voice and stage presence. Moore won with a majority of the votes, all determined by team members of the hospital.
Four other contestants participated in the finale on Wednesday afternoon in front of a crowd at the hospital’s Healing Gardens. The show featured an appearance by hospital CEO Mark LaRose and performances by Florida Hospital Oceanside’s Engineering Supervisor, John Newman.
Contestants participated in open auditions the last week of April and were narrowed down by a panel of judges made up of hospital administration to participate in the semi-final round last week. In addition to Moore, the other top finalists included Calvin Mitchell, Heidi Gagliardi, Patrina Nunnally and Yvonne Bucknor-Harrison.
Hospital Idol was one of many events the hospital’s Human Resources Department showcased for Hospital Week 2010, a yearly event that recognizes hard-working team members. Hospital Week also included an employee barbecue, ice cream social and massages.
