Florida Hospital Memorial’s Imaging Technologist earns breast navigator designation
Technologist becomes one of only two RT breast navigators in state
(DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.) -- Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center’s (FHMMC) radiologic technologist Jennifer Peludat was recently designated as a Certified Breast Patient Navigator-Imaging, sharing the designation with only one other registered technologist in the state of Florida.
“It’s not just a job to me, it’s a passion. It’s a powerful feeling to know that I can help make a difference in a woman’s health,” Peludat said. Of her 20 years of technologist experience, she has spent 14 of those in mammography. Peludat was awarded the certification on March 21 in Nevada after a grueling 2-day test that has a passing rate of only 20 percent.
Peludat’s certification validates her knowledge and skills in navigating a breast patient through their breast care, allowing her to continue to provide the best quality care. Breast navigators guide the patient through the breast imaging process, ensures each patient receives timely exam results and schedules them for appropriate follow-up care or for their next routine imaging exam. If any breast abnormalities are found, navigators ensure timely diagnosis and treatment.
“Earning this certification allows me one more avenue to help make a difference in the lives of FHMMC’s Imaging patients,” Peludat said. Her credentialing is just the beginning of Florida Hospital Imaging’s transition to a Women’s Center of Excellence as defined by the National Consortium of Breast Centers and the American College of Radiology.
