FHMMC Announces New Medical Director for Imaging

 

Daytona Beach, FL (July 16, 2009) --- Board-certified radiologist Robert C. Hewes, MD, has joined Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center as medical director of Imaging, bringing more than 30 years experience in imaging services. 

 

Prior to joining Florida Hospital Memorial, Dr. Hewes served as president of Radiology of Hilton Head, LLC, and practiced with Hilton Head Radiology Associates, which provided services to Hilton Head Regional Medical Center. He also served as president of Kettering Radiologists, Inc. and medical director of the Department of Medical Imaging in Dayton, Ohio.

 

Dr. Hewes fulfilled fellowships in orthopedic radiology at The New York Hospital-Cornell University Medical Center and in cardiovascular and interventional radiology at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. He completed a visiting fellowship in magnetic resonance imaging at the University of California, San Francisco and Huntington Research Institute in Pasadena, California. Dr. Hewes completed diagnostic radiology residency at Loma Linda University School of Medicine in Loma Linda, California. He completed a rotating internship in surgery at Kettering Medical Center in Kettering, Ohio and earned his medical degree at Loma Linda University School of Medicine.

 

Dr. Hewes has held several academic appointments including radiology instructor at Johns Hopkins University and assistant professor of radiology at Loma Linda University. Also, he served as assistant professor of radiology and as an associate clinical professor of radiology at Wright State University School of Medicine in Dayton, Ohio.

 

He has presented nationally and internationally on many topics including percutaneous bone biopsy, radiology for physical therapy and magnetic resonance imaging. Additionally, he has been published in the American Journal of Roentgenology, the British Journal of Radiology and has written and co-written chapters in “Procedures in Skeletal Radiology” and “Current Practice of Interventional Radiology.”

 

At Hilton Head Regional Medical Center, Dr. Hewes was named “Physician of the Year” and “Physician of the Month.” He is profiled in Marquis Who’s Who in America, a publication limited to individuals who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in their own fields.

 

In addition to his professional endeavors, Dr. Hewes and his wife, Judi, serve patients beyond the United States, through annual medical missionary trips.
